Fictional workbook import practice

Use this example with HoldMyTwist's guide, "Check an XLSX import in Proton Sheets before relying on it".

Contents
- source-fixture.xlsx: the original generated workbook, unchanged.
- practice-readme.txt: these instructions.

All records are invented. Values are unitless. This is a small import-check exercise, not a business template or a test of every Excel feature.

1. Extract the ZIP. Keep source-fixture.xlsx unchanged and work with a separate imported copy.
2. In Proton Drive, upload source-fixture.xlsx, open it, then choose Open in Proton Sheets.
3. Check that both Summary and Records appear. Records should show IDs 0012, 0105 and 0007, with dates 2026-02-03, 2026-03-14 and 2026-12-31.
4. Check Summary B5 = 10, B6 = 70.00 and B7 = 87.50. Summary B9 is the multiplier, 1.25.
5. In Records G2, inspect the formula bar. Expect =F2*Summary!$B$9, possibly with quotation marks around the sheet name. A displayed 31.25 alone does not prove the formula survived.
6. Change Records D2 from 2 to 4 and press Enter. Records F2 should become 50.00 and G2 62.50. Summary B5, B6 and B7 should become 12, 95.00 and 118.75.
7. Restore Records D2 to 2. Verify that Summary returns to 10, 70.00 and 87.50.
8. Compare any charts or other objects separately. Keep using the original for a task that needs a missing object.

Source data
Record ID | Date | Item | Units | Unit value | Base value | Adjusted value
0012 | 2026-02-03 | Amber | 2 | 12.50 | 25.00 | 31.25
0105 | 2026-03-14 | Birch | 3 | 8.00 | 24.00 | 30.00
0007 | 2026-12-31 | Cobalt | 5 | 4.20 | 21.00 | 26.25

Formula checks
Records F2:F4 multiply each row's Units by Unit value.
Records G2:G4 multiply each row's Base value by Summary!$B$9.
Summary B5 sums Records D2:D4; B6 sums Records F2:F4; B7 sums Records G2:G4.

Chart limitation
The source package contains a line-chart object in Summary, linked to Records C2:C4 and F2:F4. Its stored category and value caches are empty. The chart did not appear in the observed Proton Sheets import. The cause is unresolved; this one generated example does not establish how charts in other workbooks will behave.

The worked result is an import check in Proton Sheets. It is not a verified Excel or LibreOffice roundtrip. Check any exported XLSX in the app you intend to use before relying on it. This exercise checks displayed dates, not date arithmetic.
